We may hit a few rough days from Tuesday, September 23rd, through the 25th with Mercury changing directions. Yes, its time for another Mercury retrograde, and usually the most difficult days of his retrograde times are when he is changing directions. Mercury will conjunct Mars as he turns around, and that means accidents! Especially automobile accidents. Drive carefully. Verbal arguments could turn physical very easily during this time, so avoid arguments at all costs. I have an article called, “Mercury Retrograde in Libra – Where is the truth?” if you would like to read more.

So now everyone can enjoy the sweet taste of honey cake on Rosh Hashanah and all year round. Here’s the recipe. We use whole whet flour and no one is the wiser.

Meditation: After the priest opens Mass this evening “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” he will not say “the Mass is ended” until Saturday evening. Tonight begins the most important liturgy of the year, the Paschal Triduum, which in truth lasts for three days: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and finally the Easter Vigil on the evening of Holy Saturday. We depart in silence tonight, return and leave in sorrowful silence tomorrow and gather in silence once more – though with great expectation – as the sun departs on Saturday. The Passover of our Lord is here.

And we can do the same every day of every year. We can write our own page in the Book of Life today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year. How do we accomplish this? By reviewing our actions and goals from the last year, noticing where we fell short of achieving our desired outcomes and then setting new targets for the new year. However, we must take another step: We must write on the blank pages of the book by visualizing our new goals in fine detail and feeling exactly what it would be like if we had already manifested these results. In other words, we must imagine the life we want, the behaviors to which we aspire as if they had been published in that book – sealed, already done, accomplished.

Christ gave the Lord’s Supper in place of Passover, so why not celebrate it then and watch in prayer with the following modification? The disciples understood their heritage that judgments fell at Passover. They were probably thinking Passover when Christ said,You don’t know the day or hour. The Greek word, eido, meant be aware, consider, understand. Christ was saying, You don’t understand, and each time He said it, He gave an example of a provision in the law for Passover a month later “as in the days of Noah” when the Flood came with Passover timing, but in the 2nd month, Gen 7:4,11; Exod 12:3.

These shapes are symbolic of the cycle of life, hope that prayers rise to heaven, and the continuity of creation. Depending on preference and family recipes, sweet fruits such as raisins or even honey are added to the loaves to make them extra sweet.

By the time we threw an entire loaf my parents and sisters were all crying in each other’s arms. We walked back in silence. In my thoughts were imagining a ram’s horn and ultimate repentance to G-d for obeying. Though I don’t wonder when my ram will show up in a thicket, I am thankful for all of the times that a ram has helped me go on with my life in peace.

So our first reading tonight recalls God’s commands to Moses before the Israelites observed their first Passover, the one done literally on the verge of flight from their slavery in Egypt. “The first month of the year” does not refer to the start of the Jewish calendar year; as is well known, Rosh Hashanah occurs in the fall. But Passover, in the middle of Nisan, begins the Jewish liturgical year. Their seder is a “re-presentation” of all that happened to them; they are to regard themselves as being themselves in Egypt, about to be liberated from physical slavery, ready to flee as soon as they receive the word.

Since they are made from animal matter, the shofars require quite a great deal of maintenance. First of all, you have to dip your shofar in a dilute bleaching solution for about a week. Before dipping it into the solution, stuff both the ends of the horn with cotton wool or with rags. The bleaching process is necessary because it will ensure the extraction of any animal matter. If any animal matter remains, then the shofars will give out an unpleasant odor. Time and again, you need to shake the bleaching solution to make sure that the solution works well.

The weekend of September 27th could bring creative intelligence from unexpected places. Mercury, well established in his retrograde direction, will be channeling Neptune. There is a very strong possibility of messages from past over loved ones this weekend. Any religious gatherings could become strong spiritual connections all the way through Rosh Hashanah, the last day of the month.

What my friend told me made me say to myself that I don’t have to be Jewish to celebrate the cleansing of my soul. I went home that night and asked my parents about what they felt and thought of me. I told them the same. What we found out about each other changed our views in my family so dramatically that we took our own long walk down to the river and cast aside bread. With each throw of our bread we told each other what we were sad about and what we asked forgiveness for.

According to the Mishna, there are two different forms of shofar used in the Temple. The first type, made of ibex horn and ornamented with a bell and gold, was sounded at Rosh Hashanah (New Year) and during the Jubilee (Yovel) Days. The other shofar was made of a ram’s horn ornamented with silver. This special shofar sounded on fast days. After the destruction of the Temple, the use of the shofar began to be exclusively used for religious ceremonies and events.

The bottom line is that I am not here to bash religion at all. Whatever you believe is fine with me. If you want to go to church every Sunday, go for it. If you want to go to Temple, more power to you. If you’re a Buddhist, good for you.

The terms shofar and shofars have been mentioned many a times in the Bible, in the Talmud and in the Torah. It is believed that during the Exodus, Moses blew the shofar from atop the Mount Sinai to gather all the Israelites. Since then the shofars have made their entry in the Jewish customs and traditions.

Marv Owen did not drive in 100 runs like his counterparts, but proved just as tough as Rogell. Despite batting .069 in the World Series, he fought the intimidating Joe Medwick in Game 7. Medwick slid hard into Owen at third precipitating the brawl. Both players remained in the game until Commissioner Landis removed Medwick to protect him from Tiger fans. For the season, Owen hit .317 with eight home runs and 96 RBI.

Just before the days of Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur, clean these blowing horns must be cleaned with warm water. This is done to remove any bad smell that might still surround the horn. Special care has to be taken after blowing the horn. This is because, while blowing the horn, the saliva from your mouth will get accumulated in the inner portion of the horn. The bacteria in your saliva will interact with the animal tissue and may give out an unpleasant odor. To prevent it, apply bio degradable odor neutralizer spray on the horn. The spray will remove the odor. Also make sure to wipe the horn thoroughly after each single use. If possible, place the horn in specially made stands or inside velvet wraps. These will ensure that your shofar will stay just fine and ready for the next ritual.

Two Great Rosh Hashanah Dinner Recipe Ideas

Still in many parts of the world New Year’s Day falls on a day other then the first of January. It is about religion, tradition and the joining of two families. Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish holiday that is also considered to be the Jewish New Year.

Sound the shofar! When Jericho fell, it was the shofar and the shouts of the children of Israel that brought down the City’s walls. Tracing its origins back more than five thousand years, the shofar is one of the oldest wind instruments in recorded history. Today, the shofar has a special significance and place in the lives and culture of Jewish people.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is celebrated in late September or early October. The Chinese use the lunar calendar dating back 4,000 years to the waxing and the waning of the moon. Their New Year falls between January 21 and February 19. Hindus celebrate the first day of each season, so they celebrate four times each year.

The month of January was named after this god with two faces; one forever looking forward, the other looking back. Janus is always shown holding a key in his right hand, enabling him to unlock the New Year, and to lock close the old. In his left hand he holds a scepter a symbol of power.

For this High Holy Day, pomegranates are a favorite. This fruit has symbolic significance to the Jewish people, because the fruit contains 613 seed, which mirrors the 613 commandments (mitzvoth) that Jewish people seek to follow. Also, many see the pomegranate’s seeds as representing abundance and a reminder of the people’s obedience during the prior year.

The terms are thrown around on news reports and you hear them all the time now, thanks to the war in Iraq. Though they are both sects of Islam, integrally, they are almost two different religions. Why do they fight? The Sunnis and Shiites coexist in most Arabic countries. Night and day cannot exist at the same time.

September 17th is Citizenship Day. Also known as Constitution Day, September 17th recognizes the ratification of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. Throw a party to celebrate national heritage, or have a dinner party in honor of friends who have recently become citizens.

So I’m here to ask you to think before you mindlessly wish me a Merry Christmas. I do not celebrate Christmas; I celebrate Hanukkah. I may celebrate something else or I may be an atheist. Let’s embrace all our difference with a generic Happy Holidays and not allow our bosses to fire us if we refuse to say Merry Christmas to customers.

The easiest way to choose a date is by using a simple process of elimination. Start with the season you want to be married in. At present, summer is the most popular time for weddings in America. Over a third of all ceremonies are scheduled during the summer months, about half of those in the month of June. Because of its equable weather and the many options it offers couples, June will probably always be the most popular month for nuptials.

Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the month of Tishrei, which is one of twelve months in the Jewish Calendar. The uniqueness of the Jewish calendar is characteristic of its importance in observing holidays, festivals and shabbat. Making a Jewish calendar can be a great learning craft for children.

Notably, many of these same adults do not themselves care about whether they marry someone of the same religion, but they won’t stand up and tell their parents that they are not going to pass the super-religious genes onto the next generation. To those people I say: It’s your life!

Sound the shofar! It is more than just a ram’s horn! The shofar is both an important symbol of Jewish culture and an instrument that heralds significant festivals, covenants and beliefs of the Jewish people.

Rosh Hashanah: A Time For Renewal

I hope all of you had a good Rosh Hashanah and are well on your way to making this year the best yet! As wedding costs continue to increase, more and more couples are planning casual, outdoor affairs.
Use the therapist’s secret. When you’re facing a battleaxe relative, win by refusing to fight. Accept comments about your appearance, weight or singlehood that used to upset you with a nod and say “That’s the way you see it.” This really throws them and saves you from a lot of holiday stress.

Mix in a bowl the flour, salt and 1 tablespoon of sugar. In a separate bowl whisk the eggs until frothy and add to the flour mixture plus the yeast mixture, boiling and cold water and oil and mix for about 5 minutes either by hand or with a mixer and dough hook. I mixed the dough until there were no lumps.

So now everyone can enjoy the sweet taste of honey cake on Rosh Hashanah and all year round. Here’s the recipe. We use whole whet flour and no one is the wiser.

While I do believe that God has a hand in our destiny, I also believe that we were given free choice about how – and possibly when – we create that destiny. In other words, I believe that the choices we make get us to that destiny. I also believe we are cocreators of our lives, the combination of our thoughts, feelings and actions manifesting the things we experience day to day. That said, we are all cocreating, and sometimes – maybe more often than we would like – our manifestations collide creating a fair amount of chaos. In any case, we constantly experience a combination of destiny or fate and conscious or subconscious creation and cocreation.

When the Romans invaded England, they found the Druids celebrating New Year’s Day on March 10. The pagan priest would cut off branches of mistletoe on this day and carefully allow them to fall onto a sacred blanket. The branches would then be distributed among the Celtic people to be used as magical charms and for protection against evil spirits.

The Jewish Calendar has twelve months, with Tishrei being the seventh month in the year. Your child can make their calendar using a standard month/calendar template with 35 squares. Using a traditional and Jewish calendar as guide, your child can mark the days of each month. Using stickers, markers and colored pencils, your child could add special occasions such as High Holy Days, the phases of the moon, other holidays, and birthdays to their calendar. In creating this useful and colorful Jewish calendar, your child will better understand days of the week, changes in seasons, and the dates of coming holidays.

At this time of year I think about the stories I’ve heard about poor Jews brining in strangers to share their meager Shabbat dinner, only to discover that their guest was Elijah. The rabbis and administrators at temples say High Holy Day tickets are necessary because there just aren’t enough seats for everyone. What if Elijah was turned away from attending Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur services for lack of a ticket? What if allowing in that one person for free who wants to repent on Yom Kippur brought about the World to Come?

How To Make Perfect Honey Cake For Rosh Hashanah!

Honey is probably the main sweet food associated with the Jewish New Year. Marrying on holidays like Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur is definitely out of bounds if most of your guests are practicing Jews.
As Jews, we are told that on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, “it is written” and on Yom Kippur, the Day of Repentence, “it is sealed.” What is “it”? Our fate for the next year. Where is it written and sealed? In the proverbial Book of Life.

It is common, therefore, to find Rosh Hashana cards with a picture of the Lord, sitting in judgment upon His throne, with two books open before Him. These are the Book of Life and the Book of Death. Those who have been totally righteous are immediately inscribed in the Book of Life. The evil and wicked, on the other hand, are immediately written down in the Book of Death.

Because of these ties to pagan beliefs, the Pilgrims of Colonial America refused to use the word January, referring to the month instead as” first month”.

Get your children involved. Too often, children aren’t involved in Jewish holiday preparation except Purim, which is a costume-clad holiday with similarities to Halloween. This year, have your children prepare parts of Rosh Hashanah. In the kitchen, they can cut the apples and pour the honey into little cups. Let them rip up a challah for honey-dipping. With supervision, they can braise the brisket.

September 19th is one of the Boston Party Planning Page’s favorite holidays. International Talk Like a Pirate Day began with two goofy guys who wanted an excuse to talk like pirates. Gather yer scurvey mates and throw a party with eye patches and rum!

For a shofar to be kosher it cannot have any cracks or holes. This makes production difficult since approximately 30% to 40% of shofarot are cracked during the production process.

The shofar has a unique shape that is the result of the natural horn being flatten and heated. Once hollowed, the horn may resemble a streamlined cornucopia or a series of waves. Depending on Jewish school of tradition, Askkenazic or Sephardic, the shofar may or may not have a carved mouthpiece.

You tell me Merry Christmas is a general term and not a religious term. It’s a way to celebrate the time of the year. Is it really? Do you say your children are on holiday break, December break or Christmas break? Do you wonder why in many schools our Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur classes are not cancelled and that would be akin to classes on Christmas Day?

When you think of Rosh Hashanah you think of challah! These round loaves of braided egg bread are one of the most recognizable food symbols of the holiday. Christ also said, “The kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling to a far country” Matt 25:14. Again His example fit the provision for 2nd Passover, Num 9:10,11. “Till heaven and earth pass, not one jot will pass from the law” Matt :18:15. This includes Numbers 9:10,11. Christ took a journey to a far country; even His return in judgment will conform to law, pointing to 2nd Passover when “summer is nigh.” Matt 24:32.

As The Brooklyn Paper reminds us, “Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are only a week away.” Time for all observant Jews to begin feasting before they begin fasting. Consider the following Williamsburg haunts for all your requisite schmear.

A little hole shouldn’t be a problem, right? Glue and plaster will do the trick! Not so fast. Once a shofar has a hole or crack in it, it cannot be mended — it is rendered prohibited on the spot and cannot be used in a synagogue on Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur.

It was not until the 1500’s and the introduction of the Gregorian calendar that the New Year began to be observed on January 1. Still in many parts of the world New Year’s Day falls on a day other then the first of January.

No matter the amount or work and planning they put into, a wedding is not just about two people. It is about religion, tradition and the joining of two families. Couples should be sensitive to tradition when they plan their nuptials.

Stop dating people because your parents expect you to marry another Jew, or another Catholic, or another whatever. Most people I know are not religious at all, yet a lot of these same non-religious people still feel the need to date within their own religion due to their parents and their upbringing.

As we mentioned earlier, June is the most popular month for weddings. But each season has a top month for nuptials. Once the season has been selected, couples are encouraged to shop around for the best deals at reception halls and from caterers. If you are considering an outdoor affair, weather is always the most pressing concern. The spring may be wetter than the summer, but since most couples rent tents, it shouldn’t be an issue.

But Paul’s words also reflect his direct ordination as an apostle and bishop by Christ Himself. The four New Testament renderings of the Words of Institution differ slightly from each other, but not in any essentials. All four use the same Greek words to make crystal-clear that the consecrated bread and wine ARE Jesus’ body and blood. Just as the Old Covenant was ratified by the blood of animal sacrifices, so the New Covenant is ratified with Jesus’ once-for-all Sacrifice on Calvary. Christ does not “die again” on the altar. The priest “re-presents” that very same single sacrifice every time we celebrate Mass.

A shofar is a type of music instrument which is made from the ram’s horn. The horn is hollowed out and it is blown as a part of the ritual during certain holy days like Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah at certain services. Shofar is an item which is not owned by all Jews. He led the league in runs (134) and hits (214) while finishing second in batting (.356), doubles (50) and on base percentage (.450). He also knocked in 127 runs. The second baseman walked 99 times and only struck out on 25 occasions. Gehringer finished second in the MVP voting to his manager, Mickey Cochrane.

September is a good month to be Ms. Smarty Pants. September is both Classical Music Month and Read-A-New Book month, so start a book club and throw a party. Feature classical music as guests arrive and choose a new book for everyone to read. Then, gather again in October to discuss the book.

Mercury will turn direct next month, and October will have its ups and downs. There could also be some unexpected political actions towards the end of the month. Check back next month to find out more.

Rosh Hashanah Tips On Celebrating The High Holy Days

Rosh Hashanah is more than about food, but the symbolism of the High Holy Day. But why can’t they live in peace, surely Jews and Christians coexist peacefully in the White House? They are the ones most likely to use such a greeting.

For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Rosh Hashanah (September 19-20, 2009 and September 9-10, 2010) and Yom Kippur (September 28, 2009 and September 18, 2010) will occur in September also. While these are never on the same day on a conventional calendar, you should be aware of these holidays as your Jewish guests may not be able to attend a wedding if it falls on any of these days.

The Israelites had become utterly faithful about keeping Passover by the time Jesus and His disciples gathered in the Upper Room. Before the Babylonian exile, this was not always the case. Their inconsistency in keeping Passover was part of a long, sad story of unfaithfulness to the Old Covenant. Their story is a microcosm of our story. But we come again to the table tonight to celebrate our liberation from slavery, for the re-presentation of the greatest Passover of all. Jesus, the innocent, unblemished Lamb of God, our Passover, is sacrificed for us to take away the sin of the world.

Here is where I do have an issue religion-wise: when someone eliminates as a partner an incredible person just because their parents want them to marry within their religion. Do you know how many adults I run into whose parents torture them over having to marry within their religion?

Rosh Hashanah is more than about food, but the symbolism of the High Holy Day. While called the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah is actually a day of remembrance and judgment. Jewish people around the world celebrate this day with great food and hope for the coming year.

Rosh Hashanah A Day Of Rest, Not The New Year

For younger children, opt for the paper tube method, a coned birthday party hat. Taking place on the 10th day of Tishrei, Yom Kippur is recognized as a day of fasting and rest. The foursome missed one game in leading the Tigers to the pennant.
The New Year is a time to reflect upon the past, while looking forward to the future. It has been so since the early Romans, who dedicated the first day of the New Year to theirGod, Janus, keeper of the gate and the door.

The first course will consist of chicken and matzah ball soup, which will be followed by your choice of lemon and olive roasted chicken or sweet brisket. The brisket will be served with red cabbage and potato kugel. The meal will end with a dessert of cherry and apple crumble.

You can also test the shofar for its sound quality before purchasing it. If possible bring a friend along or ask the dealer to provide you a demonstration.

New York temple Chabad of the West 60s is trying to make it easier for observant fashion industry workers to accomodate both their job and their religion, by offering free services for Fashion Week attendees.

For the ordinary wandering Jews wanting to be accepted back into the fold and finding the door closed, maybe it’s just easier to walk down the street to a church. There Jews can just accept Jesus (a fellow Jew), be declared “saved” and know they will go to heaven. And they can do this on any day of the week free of charge.

Rabbi Dan Moskovitz and Jason Mesches wrote the lyrics for “Call Your Zeyde”. Temple Judea clergy and staff make you smile as you watch their antics on this inspiring parody of “Call Me Maybe”. You can find it on YouTube. After watching the video, call your zeyde (grandfather) or any other relative you miss, and wish them a sweet year.

Salt Lake Jewish Community Center Celebrates Rosh Hashanah

Entrees should be hot and hearty to keep your guests warm during the start of this chilly season. Someone blows into the Shofar when it is Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur. He said something that was both emotional and mind blowing.
I decided to make challah for the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and thought I would share the process. What I couldn’t believe was how easy it is to make this egg bread and that you shouldn’t be intimidated when considering making bread from scratch.

Set your intention for this holiday. You can make up your mind to have a happy holiday, no matter what your family relationships are like. Decide something like, “This is the happiest Rosh Hashanah or Thanksgiving I’ve ever had.” Remember to use the present tense. Instead of engaging in family relationship battles, as soon as it’s possible, give yourself your own fun-excuse yourself and go for a walk or make snow angels with the kids. As it is in other life situations like work and career, setting your intention, is the most important step. This holiday you will probably be just as happy as you decide to be.

Making the case of respecting our fellow brothers and sisters why not include everyone by saying “Happy holidays?” I do realize you may offend the atheist who can write his or her own essay.

Jesus, the innocent, unblemished Lamb of God, our Passover, is sacrificed for us to take away the sin of the world.

We start out the holiday by saying prayers. While I know certain Hebrew phrases, I am by no means an expert at saying prayers and I have a limited amount of ability in speaking in Hebrew. Still, I listen to my mother read the prayers from her Siddur (prayer book) in Hebrew every year and I follow along in English. You see, my mother went to Hebrew school for many years as a child and learned how to read the Hebrew alphabet.

Meditation: The Eucharist was not the only sacrament founded on that first Holy Thursday. The Church also traces Christ’s founding of the priesthood to this evening, through His command to celebrate the Eucharist “in remembrance of Me.” What attitude should the Twelve, and all priests and bishops after them, bring to their priesthood? The sense of pride and superiority that the chief priests and Pharisees had adopted by Jesus’ time? Quite the opposite, as we see here.

Consider a buffet: Large gatherings are difficult to seat properly in a family home. Most people can’t easily set a table for more than a dozen people and just a few families in attendance makes this task even harder. A buffet style leaves guests free to sit where they like and circulate freely. It also requires some extra serving ware that might need to be purchased. Hot plates and food servers are designed for this task and will keep food from going bad or cold. Large serving dishes can be used for the cold offerings.

Challah And Stuffed Apple Recipes For Rosh Hashanah

Rabbi Dan Moskovitz and Jason Mesches wrote the lyrics for “Call Your Zeyde”. Allow the dough to double and then take out and divide into three equal portions and braid. The brisket will be served with red cabbage and potato kugel.

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year – literally translated it means “head of the year” or “first of the year.” It is a time for reflection on the past and preparing for the future. It is a religious holiday for the Jewish community and is celebrated on the first and second days of Tishri. Rosh Hashanah is a day of rest, casting off the old year and making wishes for a sweet new year to come. As one of the High Holy Days, it is important to teach children the meaning of Rosh Hashanah and how to celebrate it properly. One way is to use Rosh Hashanah coloring pages for kids so you can explain the meanings behind the pictures. Below are several websites that offer children’s coloring pages for Rosh Hashanah so you can share this holiday with your child.

Considered both a day of judgment and the day of the creation of man, Rosh Hashanah is marked by a day of rest and by the sounding of the shofar (four times.) This unique instrument serves as a symbol of the Jewish people and their covenant with G-d. For young children, making a shofar can be fun and easy.

There are several different types of exotic shofars available today as well like ones which are made from the horns of antelopes, onyx, eland, gemsbok etc. if you want the classic shofar go for the traditional one.

The wish for a good and sweet year extends to other aspects of Rosh Hashanah’s feasting. Honey cakes serve as snack and desert for some meals. In some recipe variations, apple and honey cakes are offered as breakfast cakes similar to muffins.

The size of the Shiite majority is so close to the Sunni minority that power is tossed back and forth. One must understand that they are deeply religious people and amongst themselves, Sunnis believes Shiites are not even Islam at all. That is a slap in the face to Shiites who can trace their lineage back to Muhammad.

The Toldot Yaakov Yosef lived in the mid 1700’s. He was one of the foremost disciples of the Ba’al Shem Tov, the founder of the Chassidic movement. His version of this tradition is as follows.

Celebrate Rosh Hashanah With Sour Cream Spice Cake

The other group that differed in this stance of appointment was outraged, the Shiites. If you have time and money, take your children to a pottery store to paint their own kiddush cups. Their New Year falls between January 21 and February 19.
The Bible says, “The day of the LORD comes as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes.” 1 Thess 5:2,3. Christ affirmed, “If the goodman .had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.” Matthew 24:43. Christians are like the goodman today, not watching, because they don’t know when to watch. Christ warns, “If you don’t watch, I will come to you as a thief.” Revelation 3:3. This article looks at when to watch.

One obvious advantage of planning a wedding out of season is the price. Reception halls offer deep discounts to couples who get married when things are slow. After all, these establishments operate year-round, which means that they are forced to offer special deals to attract business during the slow season. It is also important to note that winter is a great time to visit the Caribbean. Not only are prices low, but special packages are offered to newlyweds. That may be why the region is the most popular honeymoon destination for Americans.

Christians are a bit less strict, but there are still a few days that are all but verboten. Practicing Christians do not marry during the Holy Week, which is from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday. In fact, any Sunday is a gamble. Some churches find Sunday ceremonies auspicious and joyful, while others eschew ceremonies on the day of rest. It really does depend upon your denomination and that of most of your guests. Whenever possible, it is best to err on the side of caution. If your soon-to-be-in-laws are devoutly religious, stay away from days they might perceive as sacred.

Rosh Hashanah is about enjoying the fruits of your labor and celebrating the coming of the New Year. You can do this by making some of the delicious cuisine that is made during Rosh Hashanah. Some of the best recipes include Jewish Apple Cake (one of my favorites), Brisket, Chopped Liver, Gefilte fish, and apples and honey. Have a whole bunch of family and friends over to celebrate the hope that comes with the New Year.

Both types of Muslims share the basic Islamic beliefs and articles of faith. The real difference is when they are asked where Islam originally stemmed from. After Muhammad the Prophet died, the Muslims were left in a dust of confusion about who would precede him. One group believed that the new Muslim leader should be elected from a pool of capable conservatives. As a result of this, one of Muhammad’s close friends was chosen and thus became the first caliph of the Muslim territory, Abu Bakr.

I hope you found this recipe for egg bread (challah) easy and fun to make for the Jewish New Year. I know I did. Happy Rosh Hashanah and until next time, remember the Budget Bash mantra: make it simple, delicious, stylish, fun & economical to all!

History Of The Rosh Hashanah Liturgy And Its Meaning

Finally, when you’re dressed, got your bread, got your meat, now it’s time to get your sweets. Do you know how many adults I run into whose parents torture them over having to marry within their religion?

This glossary of Rosh Hashanah terms is meant to help people understand more about the holiday. These words come directly from the Siddur (see below for definition) that my mother uses to say the prayers during the holidays. Once a person knows the meaning behind these words, they will have the general understanding of one of the most important holidays in the Jewish religion. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy year to come!

Set up a positive bond when a new boy/girlfriend comes to a holiday dinner with your family. Beforehand, tell both the family and your friend all the “good news” about each other. Introduce discussion topics both have interest in. If you are the newbie in the family, bring an incredibly thoughtful gift for the occasion, ask questions and listen a lot. Appreciate any and all good things about the meal, the house and the family members and remember to tell them what you enjoyed!

Gehringer would have better seasons and win a MVP award of his own. His double play partner, Billy Rogell never won a MVP and enjoyed his finest season in 1934. The leadoff hitter batted .296 with a .392 OBP setting the table for the thunder behind him. He scored 114 runs, rapped 175 hits, had 32 doubles, and knocked in 100 with only three home runs. He was also tough as nails and played the World Series on a broken ankle.

So, how much have we been positively impacted by the High Holidays this year? As a community in Cincinnati, have our lives been touched at all or changed?

In the dining room, let your children create special placeholders for each guest. If you have time and money, take your children to a pottery store to paint their own kiddush cups. You also can buy simple metal goblets from a home store and have your children decorate the stems.

Rosh Hashanah Memories I Will Always Cherish

These select foods are symbolic of G-d’s protection of his people and a Jews desire to lead endeavors and be blessed by G-d. Remember that if a shofar has a crack or is damaged in any manner, it would not provide you with good results.

Barness Family JCC’s Yom Kippur Crafts Page – This page has three crafts related to Yom Kippur. The crafts are Jonah and the Whale Suncatcher, Jewish Calendar, and Paper Mache Shofar. The link to do the Jewish Calendar craft is out of date for getting the info to complete the craft with current dates, but I found the Hebcal Interactive Calendar site that can help you still do the craft.

Note well the words “I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you.” Certainly Paul had been instructed on the proper wording by the Twelve after his conversion on the Damascus road.

I then kneaded the dough by hand on a marble pastry board for about 15 minutes using plenty of flour to prevent sticking and to make the dough very elastic.

We’ve spent a few weeks preparing for Rosh Hashanah, Judging our Dreams, Mastering the Exit, excited for our Grand Entrance. We have carefully examined our lives and promised to improve. We are planning for the coming year, but, as this week’s portion, “Nitzavim,” “Standers,” reminds us, in one week we too will have our big moment; we will stand before the King. We will have an opportunity to argue our case, to plead, promise, praise, and repent. We have climbed our way out of the past, prepared for our entrance into the New Year, but there is one moment that defines our future: The moment we stand before God. How will we stand?

So I’ve been labeled a bad Jew by some of the fellow members of the tribe. and that’s okay because I’ve dated outside my religion since high school. Personally, I am a spiritual person who believes in the laws of the universe, is definitely into energy and karma, and who believes in some sort of higher power.

In England, King Henry VIII, gave each guest a pomander, tied with a sprig or rosemary.for remembrance, as a sign of esteem and a token of good luck. Later in England husbands gave their wives pin money to buy pins, but the custom disappeared in the 1800’s as pins began to be produced by machine. From this custom comes the phrase pin money.

In the kitchen, they can cut the apples and pour the honey into little cups. This makes production difficult since approximately 30% to 40% of shofarot are cracked during the production process. The call of the shofar represents breath and life.

“Watch” is translated from the Greek word, gregoreo, meaning be awake. We can’t be awake every night, but there is only one night in the year that believers were commanded to watch. It was Passover, Exodus 12:10,42. Christ understood this and asked His disciples to watch (Matt 26:38-41) but we think it was only because He knew what was coming that night.

Tzedakah boxes come in all shapes and sizes. Some simply look like traditional piggy banks and others ornate boxes. For your child’s crafted box, they can use a shoe box, coffee can, cardboard sugar dispenser, or other containers with a lid. Have your child decorate the exterior of the container with traditional Jewish symbols, such as the shofar. Stickers, paper and paints are all good choices. Once their box is decorated, make sure that a hole or slit is cut in the lid. In the case of the sugar dispenser, you can simply expose the opening. With their box complete, give your child, depending on their age, real or toy coins to fill their box.

Couples who are inviting mostly Jewish guests should avoid scheduling their wedding on the Sabbath, Friday Evening, and Saturday ceremonies should only be held after sundown. Marrying on holidays like Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur is definitely out of bounds if most of your guests are practicing Jews. Consult a Jewish calendar before you choose your date.

I am speaking for generations who came before me and who paid a huge price to be heard. I believe they would feel as I do.

What Is The Shofar, And How Is It Used During The High Holy Days?

This is done to remove any bad smell that might still surround the horn. But Passover, in the middle of Nisan, begins the Jewish liturgical year. Rosh Hashanah is the first day of the Hebrew year. First we dip challah, braided egg bread, into honey.

The New Year is a time to reflect upon the past, while looking forward to the future. It has been so since the early Romans, who dedicated the first day of the New Year to theirGod, Janus, keeper of the gate and the door.

Now it all boils down to Iraq. Think logically; in the 2000 elections here in the US there was uproar because the race was so extremely close and every vote was critical. It was hysteria in both the Democratic and Republican parties. Now add fundamental religious extremists and strict laws abiding by the Qu’ran. You have Iraq. Whoever is running the country at the time will most certainly transfer his religion into all departments and rid himself of the other Islamic sect. But why can’t they live in peace, surely Jews and Christians coexist peacefully in the White House?

In the alternative of eating the fish head, pike, carp, tilapia, whitefish, and salmon are commonly served. In some homes, whitefish, tilapia and cod are made into gefilte fish and served with broth or tomato sauce.

When it comes to accessories, a basic velvet pouch may cost just $15 and up for a ram’s horn pouch, but a long pouch can be over $40. A simple stand can be found for as little as $10, while a hand-painted wooden shofar stand can cost $35 or more.

If you wish to elaborate, you can wish them good health, happiness, love, peace, prosperity . and whatever else you would wish someone beginning a new year. If you want to give a gift, kosher chocolates, candies, baked goods or fruit make thoughtful Rosh Hashanah gifts because sweets symbolize hopes for a sweet new year.

No matter the amount or work and planning they put into, a wedding is not just about two people. It is about religion, tradition and the joining of two families. Couples should be sensitive to tradition when they plan their nuptials.

Rosh Hashanah Celebrations

To sum it all up, Jews use this as a time to make peace with everyone they come in contact with. A salad with roasted pumpkin seeds or a butternut squash soup can be a perfect start to an autumn meal.
As Jews, we are told that on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, “it is written” and on Yom Kippur, the Day of Repentence, “it is sealed.” What is “it”? Our fate for the next year. Where is it written and sealed? In the proverbial Book of Life.

These are meant to be days of returning to being the image of God, clinging and attaching to God, and practising tzedakah, or righteousness and justice.

Since Rosh Hashanah is Hebrew for “head of the year,” some Jews serve the head of animals as part of their meal. Many opt for the head of a fish. In this tradition, the fish is symbolic of many things. The eyes of the fish denote knowledge, because the eyes of the fish are always open. For others, the fish is seen as a symbol of prosperity and fertility. After the fish is placed on the table, the common prayer asking that the family be more like leaders than followers is made.

As all good, observant Jews are well aware, the best spot to hit in North Williamsburg for all your holiday delicacies is Lee Avenue. Consider the following Williamsburg haunts for all your requisite schmear.

Some Great Rosh Hashanah Recipes

Three of them occur in the “Synoptic Gospels”: Matthew, Mark and Luke. We “remember” our Lord the same way the Jews “remember” Passover. Though they are both sects of Islam, integrally, they are almost two different religions.

Amongst the more popular themes found on Rosh Hashanah cards is the wish that the recipient be inscribed in the Book of Life. This idea stems from the tradition that Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, marks the creation of the world. As such, it is a time of judgment when all men must stand before the Almighty and face a reckoning of their deeds from the past year.

Pomegranate is a favoured fruit for the New Year. On the second night of Rosh Hashanah, a “new fruit” is eaten -ie a fruit that has recently come into season but no one round the table has yet had the opportunity to eat. A pomegranate is often used as this new fruit. In the Bible, the Land of Israel is praised for its pomegranates. It is also said that this fruit contains 613 seeds, just as there are 613 mitzvot (commandments). Another reason given for blessing and eating pomegranate, is the desire that good deeds in the ensuing year, will be as plentiful as the seeds of the pomegranate.

Honey Dishes: The tradition of dipping apples in honey is a seasonal tradition that makes the most of the year’s harvest. The pilgrims couldn’t have done better. An event with many guests will require a well coordinated and thought out array of apples and honey. As guests may want to engage in this activity as an appetizer, or while standing. Use different glass serving dishes and bowls for best effect. If you’re serving different types of honey; lavender, organic or traditional varieties, labeling the bowls isn’t a bad idea!

90% of Muslims are Sunnis and 10% are Shiites. Regardless of the numbers, this does leave room for discrimination. Islamic peoples are deeply rooted with their religion, for example: suicide bombers dying for their faith because they believe it will take them to Paradise. Sunnis view Shiites as heretics and in Saudi Arabia; Shiites are powerless and retain absolutely no rights. This creates a problem. Other Arab countries with Sunni majorities have followed suit.

As wedding costs continue to increase, more and more couples are planning casual, outdoor affairs. And you simply can’t do that in the dead of winter. We must also consider that teachers and other trained professionals have vacation time in the summer.

Allow the dough to double and then take out and divide into three equal portions and braid. Or just make a loaf and create a circle to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.

If you prefer to buy from Israel, you can find a number of online dealers. You can also find shofars at your local Judaica dealer, but prices are often marked up significantly.

Another trick of the trade is to cover the finished horn with lacquer to give the horn that beautiful shine, make it stronger, and hide those small defects. But the lacquer finish changes the sound of the shofar, again rendering it non-kosher.

Rosh Hashanah Quotes, Sayings, And Greetings

Meditation: The Words of Institution are recorded four times in the New Testament. Honey Dishes: The tradition of dipping apples in honey is a seasonal tradition that makes the most of the year’s harvest.
As Jews, we are told that on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, “it is written” and on Yom Kippur, the Day of Repentence, “it is sealed.” What is “it”? Our fate for the next year. Where is it written and sealed? In the proverbial Book of Life.

This Sunday evening ushers in Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Though the Christian calendar reads September 16, 2012, the Jewish calendar reports Elul 29, 5772, the last day of the year. The next day, Tishre 1, 5773 begins the New Year.

At the bar, stock a couple of hearty red wines. You might also want to make your signature cocktail a warm drink – a hot apple cider perhaps? Or offer the apple cider as a chilled drink while the sun is still up and then offer a hot apple cider as an after dinner treat.

Bring to a boil, 1/4 cup of honey, 1 tbsp. water and 1 tbsp. lemon juice. After cake has cooled for 10 minutes, poke holes around the cake and drizzle the sauce on the cake, making sure to get the sauce into the holes.

Two Great Rosh Hashanah Recipes

Christ also said, “The kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling to a far country” Matt 25:14. Finally, when you’re dressed, got your bread, got your meat, now it’s time to get your sweets. Medwick slid hard into Owen at third precipitating the brawl.

In the Biblical era, the shofars were used to mark the New Year’s Day and the days of fasting. On the New Year Day, a shofar with a golden mouthpiece was played in the Temple of Jerusalem while on days of fasting; a shofar with a silver mouthpiece was played. In modern times, these horns are blown to mark the Rosh Hashanah and to mark the end of the fasting period on the day of Yom Kippur.

New York temple Chabad of the West 60s is trying to make it easier for observant fashion industry workers to accomodate both their job and their religion, by offering free services for Fashion Week attendees.

From the ancient texts, Book of Numbers and Psalms, the ritual horn should be sounded for solemn festivals and the New Moon. In older traditions, the shofar was blown to signal sacrifices, call people to assemble and even warn the people of coming disaster. As in the case of Joshua and the walls of Jericho, it was used to signal the claiming of the City.

After the cleansing process is over, the shofars must be taken out from the solution. It must be known that these may continue to give out the smell of bleach for almost a month. To reduce the smell of bleach as much as possible, the shofars must be rinsed thoroughly in clear water and wiped dry.

Rosh Hashanah Walking Your True Path

I made the challah the day before the Jewish New Year and will serve it at dinner on Rosh Hashanah day. Religion is something you either relate to or you don’t. While I would love to be able to do this, it is not always possible.

Siddur- This is a prayer book and it contains prayers for daily and Sabbath worship. It also contains some of the prayers for holidays such as Passover and Yom Kippur.

Peel and slice the apples and arrange them in a greased baking dish. Next sprinkle with lemon juice and spread the honey over the top of the sliced apples and lemon juice.

The infield’s offensive statistics are staggering when compiled. They totaled 769 hits, 462 RBI, 179 doubles, 445 runs scored, and a .327 average. The four missed one game all year. Gehringer and Greenberg made the Hall of Fame. No other infield has ever produced such as season.

Be sure to consider these sensitive dates when picking out your wedding date so that every one of your guests can enjoy the special day to the fullest.

A Story For Rosh Hashanah

Tradition is a very important part of being Jewish, but not everyone is a traditionalist. As we mentioned earlier, June is the most popular month for weddings. Couples spend between seven and twelve months getting ready for their big day.

The summer is winding down, the school year is gearing up, and you want to throw a party. Lucky for you, September is chock-full of reasons why you should invite people over.

While Greenberg missed one game, on Yom Kippur, the rest of the infield played in all 154. Second baseman Charlie Gehringer enjoyed his best season to date.

After the cleansing process is over, the shofars must be taken out from the solution. It must be known that these may continue to give out the smell of bleach for almost a month. To reduce the smell of bleach as much as possible, the shofars must be rinsed thoroughly in clear water and wiped dry.

There is, however, a radically different interpretation of this story. The source is Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Polnoye, commonly referred to by the name of his best known book, the Toldot Yaakov Yosef.

The wish for a good and sweet year extends to other aspects of Rosh Hashanah’s feasting. Honey cakes serve as snack and desert for some meals. In some recipe variations, apple and honey cakes are offered as breakfast cakes similar to muffins.

Rosh Hashanah is nearly here! With these and other craft ideas, you and your child can share the wonderful experience of the holiday and your child grow in their knowledge about the exciting traditions of the Jewish New Year.

How Much Do You Know About Jewish Traditions?

Also make sure to wipe the horn thoroughly after each single use. And, like all other new years, you want to spread the cheer and the word. The spring may be wetter than the summer, but since most couples rent tents, it shouldn’t be an issue.
The New Year is a time to reflect upon the past, while looking forward to the future. It has been so since the early Romans, who dedicated the first day of the New Year to theirGod, Janus, keeper of the gate and the door.

There are several different types of exotic shofars available today as well like ones which are made from the horns of antelopes, onyx, eland, gemsbok etc. if you want the classic shofar go for the traditional one.

But Christ’s use of “watch” in connection with His signs for “the end of the world” (Matthew 24:3) and Paul’s use of watch and support for the following theme. Evangelical Christians who do not watch because watching is not taught in their church may be unprepared for what is coming. In short, Israel was protected at Passover by blood on the doorpost and by watching, Exodus 12:10,43. Christ died as the lamb so that we do not need to sacrifice animals, but the command to watch on the eve of Passover was maintained.

One of the retailers you and your Jewish contingency may wish to visit includes Oneg Heimishe Bakery (188 Lee Ave.) for their signature challah loaves. Also, the Satmar Butcher and Meat Market (82 Lee Ave.) is where all the Hasidic Satmar sect go for chicken, beef and lamb. If your dress is not up to snuff, visit Bais Hasefer (75 Lee Ave.), which has kippot and talis to fit any individual; you can also find prayer books and other religious articles there. Finally, when you’re dressed, got your bread, got your meat, now it’s time to get your sweets. Kaff’s Bakery (73 Lee Ave.) just next door to Bais Hasefer is where you can get your honey cakes, strudel and the best chocolate babkas in all of Williamsburg!

Here is where I do have an issue religion-wise: when someone eliminates as a partner an incredible person just because their parents want them to marry within their religion. Do you know how many adults I run into whose parents torture them over having to marry within their religion?

This is why Paul could say, “The times and seasons.you know perfectly,” 1Thess 5:1-6. Many Christians recognize Easter as a paganized holiday. What do Easter eggs and bunny rabbits have to do with Christ’s resurrection? This year, instead of Easter, why not celebrate communion on the eve of 2nd Passover, Sunday evening, May 10, and remember to “watch” in prayer, reflecting on the whipping and pain Christ took for us as we watch like He said, Matthew 26:38, Revelation3:3.

They punished American League pitching while playing tight defense behind their pitchers. The special horn is sounded at the end of the fast. On Rosh Hashanah, all Jewish people are supposed to go to the synagogue and recite prayers.

If you’re in the market for a shofar, the most significant cost factor is length, which is typically measured around the outer curve (not end to end). Ram’s horns range from 10 inches for a compact horn to 24 inches for an extra large shofar, with several more sizes in between. Typical online prices for short shofars can run as low as $30. For a medium length horn, expect to pay $40-$90 and for a large shofar $60-$120. An extra large ram’s horn shofar will set you back $130 or more.

September is also back to school time. If you’re planning on including children as flower girls or ring bearers, you should talk to their parents early to make sure they can make it to your wedding.

I’ve dated women who chanted every morning when they got up and prayed to Buddha. I’ve dated women who go to church. Have I gone with them? No. Have I respected them and their belief system? Absolutely!

Couples who have a certain date in mind don’t have to bother with seasons or discounts. Tens of thousands of couples get married on Valentine’s Day, Christmas or on a date that is personally important to them. It could be the day they first met, their first date or even their parents’ wedding day. But for everyone else, the process requires some cerebration.

Rosh Hashanah is the start of a New Year! And, like all other new years, you want to spread the cheer and the word. Making greeting cards for this High Holy Day is a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit!

Mix together 1 cup oil, 1 and 1/2 cups sugar, 3 eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla, 2 cups flour, 3 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cinnamon. Add milk mixture. Put in bunt pan and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Some Rosh Hashanah Dinner Recipe Ideas

Once the paper mache dries, pop the balloon with a pin and remove it from the center of the paper mache. To encourage this tradition, Temple Judea of Tarzana has devised a unique reminder. No other infield has ever produced such as season.

Like the New Year in January, this is the time when Jews call their relatives who live far away. To encourage this tradition, Temple Judea of Tarzana has devised a unique reminder. They have created a fun video using the music from Carly Rae Jepsen’s song “Call Me Maybe”. This video is called “Call Your Zeyde”.

The Toldot Yaakov Yosef lived in the mid 1700’s. He was one of the foremost disciples of the Ba’al Shem Tov, the founder of the Chassidic movement. His version of this tradition is as follows.

The 1934 Detroit Tigers boasted the greatest infield ever assembled. The foursome missed one game in leading the Tigers to the pennant. They punished American League pitching while playing tight defense behind their pitchers. Their effort played a major role in Detroit’s success and has stood the test of time.

Thoughts Off The Top Of My Rosh (Hashanah)

This holiday you will probably be just as happy as you decide to be. You can also test the shofar for its sound quality before purchasing it. Couples should be sensitive to tradition when they plan their nuptials.
Rosh Hashanah is the start of the High Holy Days. It is the start of repentance. The Jewish people use the High Holy Days as a time to ask God for forgiveness and to try to make their lives better. According to the Jewish tradition, God decides who is going to live or die in the coming year. To sum it all up, Jews use this as a time to make peace with everyone they come in contact with. As Jews, we believe that God is willing to forgive people for their sins if they strive to make things better for themselves and others around them.

I asked what many of the celebrations were like and he said that his family has celebrated ever since he was a young boy. Rosh Hashanah wasn’t for a couple of more days but he wanted to get in the spirit early and his family has a week-long cherishing of the event that includes eating apples and honey with bread.

On Rosh Hashanah, all Jewish people are supposed to go to the synagogue and recite prayers. We are supposed to repent for our sins and seriously examine our lives. We are supposed to look for ways to better ourselves. We ask God to save us, be merciful and forgive us for any sins we may have committed. Unfortunately, I have never really had the chance to go to a synagogue during the Jewish holidays. The one time I did get to go to a synagogue was when a friend of mine had his bar mitzvah. Someday, I hope to be able to say the prayers in a Synagogue.

Notably, many of these same adults do not themselves care about whether they marry someone of the same religion, but they won’t stand up and tell their parents that they are not going to pass the super-religious genes onto the next generation. To those people I say: It’s your life!

The Jewish people use the High Holy Days as a time to ask God for forgiveness and to try to make their lives better. While the days may still be warm, the nights in September can be chilly. In his left hand he holds a scepter a symbol of power.

The High Holy Days would lose their meaning if the experience is not carried forward to the days ahead. It is how we live in the days after the Day of Atonement that gives significance to all the observances.

September 17th is Citizenship Day. Also known as Constitution Day, September 17th recognizes the ratification of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. Throw a party to celebrate national heritage, or have a dinner party in honor of friends who have recently become citizens.

So now everyone can enjoy the sweet taste of honey cake on Rosh Hashanah and all year round. Here’s the recipe. We use whole whet flour and no one is the wiser.

This rendition captures the heart of Chassidic philosophy. Responsibility for our actions and our future are dependent on man, not G-d. It is we who ultimately determine our fate.

Planning A Successful Rosh Hashanah 2012

This rendition captures the heart of Chassidic philosophy. All four use the same Greek words to make crystal-clear that the consecrated bread and wine ARE Jesus’ body and blood. I Gourmet has Kosher food products that are imported from Isreal.

I then kneaded the dough by hand on a marble pastry board for about 15 minutes using plenty of flour to prevent sticking and to make the dough very elastic.

By Saturday, September 6th, we may be experiencing some frustrations, and our energy could be low. Those of us who over did it this past week may find we hit burnout this weekend. There could be some miscommunications and travel problems on Sunday and Monday. Especially Monday, September 8th, with Pluto and Jupiter at direct station on that day. There could also be money and family problems surfacing on Monday and Tuesday.

Autumn wedding invitations can range in colors from a warm yellow to deep wine to earthy reds and browns. As the leaves are changing colors you can match those colors with your wedding invitations. Whether you choose a classical and elegant invention or a modern look, you can use these colors of the season for your September wedding.

Please do not send me a card with Jesus in a manger. If you are going to send me a card please write or buy one that says Seasons Greetings. I am speaking for many who won’t or can’t speak. I am speaking for generations who came before me and who paid a huge price to be heard. I believe they would feel as I do.

Ring In The Jewish New Year With A Gluten

The call of the shofar represents breath and life. For this High Holy Day, pomegranates are a favorite. In this tradition, the fish is symbolic of many things. Consider a buffet: Large gatherings are difficult to seat properly in a family home.
I decided to make challah for the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and thought I would share the process. What I couldn’t believe was how easy it is to make this egg bread and that you shouldn’t be intimidated when considering making bread from scratch.

So, is the Book of Life figurative or literal? Is it a poetic or a concrete use of words? I believe it is both. If God plays a hand in our destiny, then it might be that our fate is sealed already. However, we are told that “t’shuvah, tefillah and tzedakah” (repentance, prayer and charity) can change God’s decree. If this is so, we can create – or co create – our fate for the year. We can change God’s mind, if it were. We help God write our page in the Book of Life for the coming year – or for our whole life.

When you think of Rosh Hashanah you think of challah! These round loaves of braided egg bread are one of the most recognizable food symbols of the holiday. During this High Holy Day, challah loaves are shaped into rounds, spirals (ladders) or birds. These shapes are symbolic of the cycle of life, hope that prayers rise to heaven, and the continuity of creation. Depending on preference and family recipes, sweet fruits such as raisins or even honey are added to the loaves to make them extra sweet.

The shofar is unique in that it is a musical instrument typically created from the horn of a kosher male animal. According to Rabbi Moshe Gallante II’s Elef Hamagen, the horn preferences delineate with the curved ram horn, curved other sheep horn, curved other animal horn and straight ram’s horn being the order of most preferred to least. If non-kosher animal horns are used, there must be a special bracha or blessing. Still cow horns or antlered animal horns are not preferred.

This Sunday evening ushers in Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Though the Christian calendar reads September 16, 2012, the Jewish calendar reports Elul 29, 5772, the last day of the year. The next day, Tishre 1, 5773 begins the New Year.

Our destiny, our fate for the next year remains sealed not until next Yom Kippur, however, but until we make a new choice, think a new thought, get into a different emotional pattern.or God feels the need to take us in hand. That’s cocreation at it’s best.

Biblical Clues That Rapture May Happen On Rosh Hashanah Feast Of Trumpets

Rosh Hashanah, sometimes referred to as the Jewish New Year, is a time for celebration! Mix in a bowl the flour, salt and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Those who have been totally righteous are immediately inscribed in the Book of Life.

“Take this pen and decide for yourself. Inscribe your name in whichever book you see fit. You are the judge and you are the one who will determine your future”.

In this holiday season of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur the meaning of the various rituals is called to mind and some may question the length of the service and their significance. There was even a suggestion of doing away with the services entirely and simply celebrating as though it were an ordinary secular New Year. This story calls to mind that the central significance of these holidays are our connection to Hashem and that without that connection we may become lost along the way.

Siddur- This is a prayer book and it contains prayers for daily and Sabbath worship. It also contains some of the prayers for holidays such as Passover and Yom Kippur.

He climbed his way up from the pit and made a grand entrance into the palace. He was escorted into the throne room and stood before the king. His exit from the pit was exciting. His entrance into the throne room, grand. This was his moment. How would Joseph take advantage of the ultimate opportunity? By remaining standing.

The CFDA greatly respects and understands the importance of this holiday but, given the international calendar of European shows directly after New York, we do not have the option to shift the dates later. We realize that the observance of the holiday will impact some in their ability to attend or present shows-but we are asking that everyone please work with us to make this situation work as best as possible.

Rosh Hashanah Tips On Celebrating The High Holy Days

Mercury will turn direct next month, and October will have its ups and downs. As we mentioned earlier, June is the most popular month for weddings. Maybe you are a member of a synagogue or havurah and you don’t need to worry about this.
I usually don’t celebrate Jewish holidays since most of my friends practice other religions. When I was in high school growing up on the east coast one of my friends in Boy Scouts had brought apples and honey to school with him for lunch. I asked why he suddenly changed his diet and he said it was because he and his family were celebrating the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah.

Serving an Exotic Fruit: One of the traditions of Rosh Hashana is to serve a new fruit, an exotic one that guests have not eaten in the past year. Given that it is September some people may have trouble coming up with a fresh option that guests won’t know. Whatever you choose to serve, consider what you serve it in. A silver tiered serving tray can make a great pre-dinner centerpiece. Especially when it bears many tiered levels of succulent fruits.

Since everything here is perishable, it must be sent over-night or second day air. They have items like Standing Rib Roast for $10.99/lb, Spring Chicken for $2.89/lb, Veal Cutlets $12.99 per lb and Sliced Nova Lox $9.99 / 8oz.

Curious, I kept asking about the tradition and he explained the dramatic ram’s horn is blown in synagogue and his family takes a walk from their home down to the creek at sunset to cast off their sins. I was close enough to my friend to ask him what the holiday means to him personally. He said something that was both emotional and mind blowing. He said that Rosh Hashanah gives him a chance to cleanse his soul. It makes him realize that even when we fail to obey G-d that hope springs eternal for a new day. He told me that no matter how much we feel separated from G-d, sunrise on a new day brings his love back to us.

Yom Kippur (September 28, this year) is when Jewish people celebrate the Day of Atonement. It is fitting to continue with the “Happy New Year” or “Shana Tova” greeting all the way through Yom Kippur as this whole period is considered the start of the new year. You could also wish your Jewish friends a “Good Signing” (in the Book of Life) or the Hebrew equivalent “Hatima Tova,” but it is more apprpriate to use that only for greeting the more orthodox of your Jewish friends. They are the ones most likely to use such a greeting. Given Yom Kippur is a fast day, you could also wish your Jewish friends an “Easy Fast” or the Hebrew equivalent “Tzom Kal.” Gifts are not given for Yom Kippur.

Honey dishes are a very popular gift. They come an a large variety of designs and materials. Judaica designers have in recent years, been inspired to create stylish and contemporary honey dishes which can also be used for other foods the rest of the year.

Rosh Hashanah Glossary For Beginners

Jewish people around the world celebrate this day with great food and hope for the coming year. The pagan priest would cut off branches of mistletoe on this day and carefully allow them to fall onto a sacred blanket.
I decided to make challah for the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and thought I would share the process. What I couldn’t believe was how easy it is to make this egg bread and that you shouldn’t be intimidated when considering making bread from scratch.

Saturday is the most popular day of the week for weddings. However, it is always a good idea to consider religious observances. For devout Jews and Christians, weekend ceremonies may not be an option. The good news is that weekday wedding are much cheaper for everyone. Not only are reception halls more affordable during the week, but hotel rates are also cheaper. Of course, we are only talking about small savings here. If you truly have your heart set on a Saturday wedding, it doesn’t make much sense to switch to another day just to save a few hundred dollars.

Mix together 1 cup oil, 1 and 1/2 cups sugar, 3 eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla, 2 cups flour, 3 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cinnamon. Add milk mixture. Put in bunt pan and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Shofar Craft – This is another Shofar craft. The Paper Mache one is not that hard, but this one is even simpler being made with a paper plate and construction paper.

Rosh Hashanah: A Time For Renewal

Whenever possible, it is best to err on the side of caution. Honey Dishes: The tradition of dipping apples in honey is a seasonal tradition that makes the most of the year’s harvest. To print out a page, you click on a picture of the coloring page.

Played like a French horn, the hollowed shofar sounds vary from plain deep notes, treble trills, moaning sounds, and staccato beats. During rituals, three basic sounds are emitted from the shofar- the tekiah (bass), teruah (treble), and shevarim (three connected short sounds.) The shofar is blown in a sequence noted by a blend of the three sounds.

Rosh Hashanah is the first day of the Hebrew year. It is called Rosh Hashanah since “rosh” means head and “shanah” is year – the “ha” part makes the whole “head (or beginning of) the year” So, when you meet them, it is nice to wish your Jewish friends a happy new year. “Happy New Year” or the Hebrew equivalent “Shana Tova” are appropriate greetings.

The other group that differed in this stance of appointment was outraged, the Shiites. They believed that the torch should have been handed down by blood to someone in Muhammad’s family and today, their heritage can be traced back to Muhammad’s daughter, Fatima. Thus, the schism of sects occurred. The Sunnis believed in capability and the Shiites believed in blood when handing down political power and is still used today in Muslim nations.

Rosh Hashanah Cards – The Book Of Life

I have an article called, “Mercury Retrograde in Libra – Where is the truth?” if you would like to read more. As the leaves are changing colors you can match those colors with your wedding invitations.
I decided to make challah for the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and thought I would share the process. What I couldn’t believe was how easy it is to make this egg bread and that you shouldn’t be intimidated when considering making bread from scratch.

So you meet your Jewish friends walking along the street this week. What are acceptable ways for non-Jewish people to respectfully convey warm wishes to them for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (the Jewish New Year and Day of Atonement, reseptively)?

Mix in a bowl the flour, salt and 1 tablespoon of sugar. In a separate bowl whisk the eggs until frothy and add to the flour mixture plus the yeast mixture, boiling and cold water and oil and mix for about 5 minutes either by hand or with a mixer and dough hook. I mixed the dough until there were no lumps.

Here is where I do have an issue religion-wise: when someone eliminates as a partner an incredible person just because their parents want them to marry within their religion. Do you know how many adults I run into whose parents torture them over having to marry within their religion?

While the days may still be warm, the nights in September can be chilly. Your best bet is either an early outdoor ceremony earlier in the afternoon and then a reception inside or an all indoor ceremony. Make a note in your wedding invitation about your ceremony and reception plans so guests can be prepared and dress accordingly.

Some Great Rosh Hashanah Recipes

Also make sure to wipe the horn thoroughly after each single use. Whenever possible, it is best to err on the side of caution. In fact, it is considered to be a very special item which is handed down from generation to generation.
Now the interesting thing is that I always thought that I was alone in my dislike for honey cake, but when I got married, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my wife also did not care for it. So our Rosh Hashanah cuisine always consisted of traditionally sweet foods but the cake of choice was not honey.

We may find ourselves in the mood to work hard on special projects on Labor Day, the first day of Ramadan, and most of the first week of September, with the Sun joining the Jupiter-Saturn concord. The Sun is in Virgo, so its time for harvest. We are going to be feeling those instinctive instructions to work hard and reap our crops, and we should find it easy to focus them into our businesses and our homes. It may be time for some Fall housecleaning. I have an article called, “Jupiter Trine Saturn – Ready to Work Hard,” if you would like to read more.

One of the points I like to emphasize in Budget Bash is to make it simple and not stress out about preparing for a party. I made the challah the day before the Jewish New Year and will serve it at dinner on Rosh Hashanah day.

There is, however, a radically different interpretation of this story. The source is Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Polnoye, commonly referred to by the name of his best known book, the Toldot Yaakov Yosef.

Siddur- This is a prayer book and it contains prayers for daily and Sabbath worship. It also contains some of the prayers for holidays such as Passover and Yom Kippur.

Rosh Hashanah Memories I Will Always Cherish

The one time I did get to go to a synagogue was when a friend of mine had his bar mitzvah. The 1915 outfield of Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford, and Bobby Veach is considered the greatest ever. Whenever possible, it is best to err on the side of caution.

The summer is winding down, the school year is gearing up, and you want to throw a party. Lucky for you, September is chock-full of reasons why you should invite people over.

In time Msztp (they never give their real name) forgot too but everyone once in a while at that time of year he felt as though he had lost something. The problem was he never remembered what.

If you prefer to buy from Israel, you can find a number of online dealers. You can also find shofars at your local Judaica dealer, but prices are often marked up significantly.

The U.S. should have nothing to do with the Iraq War. Our government knows nothing about the internal functioning of their culture and Islam as a way of life and being is unfathomable to Christian Americans. No matter who you put into power as president in Iraq today, it will always be contested because the leader will always be biased towards their sect (Sunni or Shiite) and one or the other will always end up being discriminated.

He said that Rosh Hashanah gives him a chance to cleanse his soul. Regardless of the numbers, this does leave room for discrimination. The one time I did get to go to a synagogue was when a friend of mine had his bar mitzvah.
Not only is September time to go back to school but it can be a great time to get married. The too-hot days of summer have passed and you’re left with warm afternoons and cool evenings, perfect for your wedding reception. Fall colors lean more to the rich earthy tones and your menu can be a hearty fall feast.

Some of the highlights include National Flower Week (during the 3rd week of September) and National Dog Week (during the 4th week), so host a dinner party with fresh flowers or throw a fiesta for Fido.

This Sunday evening ushers in Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Though the Christian calendar reads September 16, 2012, the Jewish calendar reports Elul 29, 5772, the last day of the year. The next day, Tishre 1, 5773 begins the New Year.

These are meant to be days of returning to being the image of God, clinging and attaching to God, and practising tzedakah, or righteousness and justice.

According to prayer, Jews are not supposed to do any service work during the two days of Rosh Hashanah. While I would love to be able to do this, it is not always possible. Sometimes we just have to fulfill life’s demands. It does not look like I will be able to take off from work this year. However, I will definitely try to take off in the future.

Shofar Prices: What You Should Expect To Pay For Various Types Of Shofar

However, we are told that “t’shuvah, tefillah and tzedakah” (repentance, prayer and charity) can change God’s decree. You can also find shofars at your local Judaica dealer, but prices are often marked up significantly.

Play up the sweetness. Rosh Hashanah is the start of 10 days of reflection leading up to Yom Kippur. During these Days of Awe, Jews are supposed to ask forgiveness of those whom they hurt during the year.

While most craft and discount stores won’t have a ram’s horn handy, there are many other ways to make your crafty wind instrument. For younger children, opt for the paper tube method, a coned birthday party hat. For older children, you may want to try the paper mache method. For the small children, simply shape your tube into a cone or just remove rubber and frills from the birthday hat. Once you have a cone shape, decorate! For more advanced children, take a wavy balloon and cover with paper mache. Once the paper mache dries, pop the balloon with a pin and remove it from the center of the paper mache. Add a cone shaped mouth piece and your child will have a very cleverly fashioned shofar to show and share.

The other day my Labrador Daphne told me she wanted to become a Buddhist dog, as she was already proficient in downward facing dog. So I respected her decision and allowed it, even though my dream was to have a litter of Labrador puppies with yamakas on their heads celebrating Hanukkah with us this December.

Be sure to consider these sensitive dates when picking out your wedding date so that every one of your guests can enjoy the special day to the fullest.

Easy Ways For Your Family To Observe The Second Day Of Rosh Hashanah

And you simply can’t do that in the dead of winter. I am speaking for generations who came before me and who paid a huge price to be heard. Allow the dough to double and then take out and divide into three equal portions and braid.
Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish holiday that is also considered to be the Jewish New Year. Wikipedia states that “Rosh Hashanah is observed as a day of rest and the activities prohibited on Shabbat are also prohibited on Rosh Hashanah. You won’t want your children to do activities that are prohibited but you want them to enjoy the holiday and the traditions that go along with it. One of the activities your child can do is to color Rosh Hashanah coloring pages. There are several places on the internet that have them and all you have to do is print them out before Rosh Hashanah for your child to color. This article will detail a few of the best places to get Rosh Hashanah coloring pages online.

The month of January was named after this god with two faces; one forever looking forward, the other looking back. Janus is always shown holding a key in his right hand, enabling him to unlock the New Year, and to lock close the old. In his left hand he holds a scepter a symbol of power.

If you are entertaining your family this year and they have Rosh Hashanah off, spend the day volunteering and doing something sweet for others in need. The experience combined with your celebration will be very memorable. My family did this last year. We helped out at a local soup kitchen during lunchtime. By the time we sat down for Rosh Hashanah dinner, we all had a different perception of what we consume and how lucky we are to have anything.

No matter the amount or work and planning they put into, a wedding is not just about two people. It is about religion, tradition and the joining of two families. Couples should be sensitive to tradition when they plan their nuptials.

Shofars are also available in plenty of different finishes like natural finish, partially polished and completely polished. Select the type of finish that suits your tastes.

Now I am about as Jewish as my dog. I’m a bad Jew. I can’t tell you what the Rosh in Rosh Hashanah is, or exactly what the Yom is in front of the Kapur. The closest I get to “Yom”ing is when I “ohmmm” in my yoga class.

Be sure to consider these sensitive dates when picking out your wedding date so that every one of your guests can enjoy the special day to the fullest.

Ring In The Jewish New Year With A Gluten

We helped out at a local soup kitchen during lunchtime. But strangely enough, in Iran and Iraq the tables are turned. So, its not surprising that during Rosh Hashanah honey is part of the culinary custom.

Now the interesting thing is that I always thought that I was alone in my dislike for honey cake, but when I got married, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my wife also did not care for it. At the bar, stock a couple of hearty red wines. You might also want to make your signature cocktail a warm drink – a hot apple cider perhaps? Or offer the apple cider as a chilled drink while the sun is still up and then offer a hot apple cider as an after dinner treat.

The apostle Paul said those holy days were “a shadow of things to come,” Colossian 2:16. He kept them, (Acts 20:6,16; 27:9) and urged us to follow his example, 1Cor 11:1; 5:8. Some scholars say the types that relate to the second advent will be fulfilled at the time of the symbolic service. This was so last fall when the US Senate met on Rosh Hashanah to approve a bailout and the markets crashed for 10 days till Yom Kippur. This fit the timing for the trumpets in Leviticus 23:24-27. With the first trumpet in Revelation 8:7, “all green grass was burnt up,” but grass represents riches in James 1:9-11 in KJV, “As the flower of the grass, so shall the rich man fade.” So we see a timely application of Jewish feast days may occur for the end-time, just as Christ died as the Passover lamb at Passover.

We can strive to be better and better if we constantly experience the significance of the High Holy Days. That is what God requires and that is what our community desires. We can make a difference in our lives, our families and our community if we truly embrace the essence of the High Holy Days.

Jewish Gifts – Respect Your Faith

A Christian on Christmas or Easter never lacks for a seat in a church. A buffet style leaves guests free to sit where they like and circulate freely. Also, foods that increase phlegm, such as fatty foods and milk products, are not suggested.

The New Year is a time to reflect upon the past, while looking forward to the future. It has been so since the early Romans, who dedicated the first day of the New Year to theirGod, Janus, keeper of the gate and the door.

Glasses: Any fine dinner starts with glassware. Serving drinks in normal glass tumblers or cups just isn’t appropriate for a fine dining occasion. Choose short or long stem crystal glasses for a real touch of elegance. Consider using beverage specific glasses if alcohol is to be served.

And this call goes out to all Christians, not merely priests, bishops and Peter’s successor as pope, “the servant of the servants of God.” Sin, in every expression, is self-centeredness at the expense of others. We must think and speak and act with the same humility, the same emptying of self, that Christ modeled throughout His earthly ministry and all the way to the cross.

The apostle Paul said those holy days were “a shadow of things to come,” Colossian 2:16. He kept them, (Acts 20:6,16; 27:9) and urged us to follow his example, 1Cor 11:1; 5:8. Making the case of respecting our fellow brothers and sisters why not include everyone by saying “Happy holidays?” I do realize you may offend the atheist who can write his or her own essay.

The first day of Tishrei marks Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. On this day, Jewish people observe the first of the High Holy Days. Rosh Hashanah is also a time that Jews celebrate G-d’s creation of the world and embark on personal paths of repentance. The holiday is deeply meaningful and a perfect time for parents to teach their children about Jewish customs. One of the best ways to celebrate and learn about Rosh Hashanah is through crafts inspired by the holiday.

September has a couple of holidays you should look out for. Labor Day is the first Monday in September. This might be a great time to have your wedding and take advantage of the extra day off. If you plan to have our wedding around Labor Day, just make sure to note that with your wedding invitation as some might not realize the date of the holiday.

We cannot do this on our own, but Christ Himself makes it possible through His Word and sacraments and most especially as we humbly receive His body, blood, soul and divinity. He not only humbled Himself to wash our feet; in the eating and drinking, the Bridegroom literally enters each of us and makes us one in His Mystical Body, the Church, His Bride.
