Black Gothic dresses are sometimes confused with heavy metal subculture. There are a number of people in the heavy metal subculture that wear long black trench coats as do people in the Goth culture. This is where people often get confused. People who are in the Goth scene typically separate themselves by wearing black makeup and having their hair dyed black. Confusion is that there is another subculture of the heavy metal groups that is called black metal. There is a resemblance to the dresses that are worn in the Gothic culture.
