Heavy metal music is one genre that typically does not get as much attention as it really deserves. To many people, heavy metal has carries a lot of negative connotations that turn them off right away. I hope that in the future people are able to get past these perceived negatives so that they can enjoy the complexities and, perhaps surprisingly, beauty of heavy metal music.

I think it’s AOL, really. 1996 was the year they took over the internet. That meant that Joe Idiot who basically wanted television with a keyboard could find out about death metal. Joe Idiot and his friends decided they wanted to be cool like the death metal people, but they wanted the music to be just like their indie rock under the skin. That’s how you get metal-flavored indie rock like metalcore, shoegaze black metal, and that new kind of ultra-kvlty black metal that’s basically punk rock in a minor key.

Yes, it’s almost impossible. Our fans do not care about time and stage limitations. They are right, they want us to deliver. In the past few years I enticed the whole band so we learn as many songs as we could. It has not always easy especially due to the fact we play and work non-stop both in the studio and in the road. With the notion that to please every sensibility it’s impossible we always target for an intense setlist.

The crowd was on it’s feet from start to finish singing along and guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz provided non-stop comedy throughout the set trying to make sure that everyone was getting in on the fun.

You couldn’t just wander into a record store and buy underground metal. The big record stores had the heavy metal of the 1970s, and the big three (Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax) but probably not Slayer, unless they were fairly pro-metal.

Yeah you can know a lot and still know very little, but it helps if you have a concept of idea if you wanna express. It’s always an adventure to try and get that to come through in audio recording. It’s hard and no one ever gets it right, so they keep making them.

Moonspell music has a very strong emotional aesthetic. Do you ever have difficulty capturing that same essence in the live setting, or is it actually more powerful that way?

I have hardwood flooring in my kitchen. For color I love throw rugs, which serve more than one purpose. I very seldom wear shoes or socks in the house. But standing at the kitchen sink I do like the feel of a rug under my feet. The rugs in my kitchen help break up the expanse of wood flooring. They give a little comfort to my tired feet, and they add color to the room. Throw rugs are another inexpensive way to update the look and feel of your kitchen.

From out of Arizona come Godhunter, which describe their sound as “black metal from the trailer park.” The band has posted some live tracks, as well as some demo recordings, so check them out on their myspace site.

The Ponce Deleon Lighthouse is an active lighthouse. It was built in 1887. It is the only Florida Lighthouse listed as a National Historic Landmark and it is the second tallest brick tower in the U.S.

Death metal isn’t going anywhere or going to die out. It is only getting better and more popular. Some bands are getting to public radio and are connecting to a different crowd. Watch for more metal coming to the city near you.
