So that’s what that Domecracker thing is, me and Joc. Artists like Lady GaGa and 3OH3 have brought techno beats to the masses. I think it even came with a “low profile” baseball cap, which to this day cracks me up.
Now that the summer season has officially began, Little Five Points will see a lot more good-quality music and entertainment, and it won’t hesitate to slap everyone in the face! Here are a few highlighting shows for the week.

Its video was directed by Spike Lee and featured other hip-hop artists popular in the early 1990s, including Queen Latifah, Eazy-E, Run-D.M.C., and Da Youngstas. Poverty’s Paradise won the Grammy Award in 1996 for Best Rap Album, becoming the first album to win this award. It also spawned a hit song in “Feel Me Flow” which peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Drop the Lime, aka Luca Venezia, mixes breakbeat with house, dubstep, and breakcore to create a trippy backdrop to your inner self, turning boom-waht to an art form. An other-self portrait.

After taking a hiatus from hip-hop to explore house music and produce Stevie Wonder tribute shows, DJ Spinna returns with his latest album, Sonic Smash. In part one of this lengthy interview, the humble producer speaks on the 90’s NY underground scene and how Funkmaster Flex almost stole his record.

Later on I was able to get my hands on a Roland XP-60 Workstation and a Roland MV-8000 Sampler/Sequencer. Again this is physical hardware that you are able to play. The XP-60 had stock sounds but could you not add sounds. However, the MV-8000 which is a sampler/sequencer was able to add sounds and sample. This really opened the door for creativity being able to import new sounds and sample new things.

I love how the Afrika Bambaata a capella sounds over the Plump DJ’s Shifting Gears mix a lot. Also really like the way the Candi Station and Bounce a capellas sounded over top of Sketch’s Pentangle. But my favorite is the Love Commandments a capella over top of the Boy 8-Bit Cricket Scores track.

If hard and punk rock isn’t the right tune for Sunday evening, then head down the street to The Five Spot to hear some New Orleans-bred funk! Water Seed is putting together an awesome show to highlight their soulful and funky ways at the best spot for funk concerts. Opening up for this band will be Kev Choice, emcee and pianist with a jazz and soul influence, and another New Orleans native Casme’ providing some fun and soulful tunes.
