I first started out with a DR-660 drum machine about 18 years ago. But you got your first big break with the record, “Everybody Bounce.” Can you tell me about that? So let me talk a little bit about the Hardware side.
Naughty by Nature is a Grammy Award-winning American hip hop trio from East Orange, New Jersey that at the time of its formation in 1989 consisted of Treach, Vin Rock, and the DJ Kay Gee. They are known for being one of the few rap acts who were able to balance success on the pop charts with hardcore rap credibility.

It’s back to kick off the summer season! After the buzz from the first installment of this dub-metal show, it was inevitable for this monstrous event to keep going. I love how the Afrika Bambaata a capella sounds over the Plump DJ’s Shifting Gears mix a lot. Also really like the way the Candi Station and Bounce a capellas sounded over top of Sketch’s Pentangle. But my favorite is the Love Commandments a capella over top of the Boy Bit Cricket breakbeat Scores track.
Later on I was able to get my hands on a Roland XP-60 Workstation and a Roland MV-8000 Sampler/Sequencer. Again this is physical hardware that you are able to play. The XP-60 had stock sounds but could you not add sounds. However, the MV-8000 which is a sampler/sequencer was able to add sounds and sample. This really opened the door for creativity being able to import new sounds and sample new things.
I am happiest with the response and how many people have been inspired by it. Hearing “I don’t listen to breaks and never really liked it before I heard your CD” is really what it is all about for me. I think that if you can open up someone to your genre, then you have done your job perfectly and possibly made a new fan.
I was approached by East West [Records]. That [Das EFX “Microphone Master”] was the first official remix and I was in Kansas. I had to get the job done so I brought Joc Max in and did it with him. Everything that we did, we labeled it Domecrackers. We eventually wanted to do a project called the Domecracker Project where me and him produce the whole record. But that still has yet to come to fruition. We talk about it all the time. He’s like a best friend, actually, like a brother. I speak to him all the time even outside of the music thing. So that’s what that Domecracker thing is, me and Joc.
