You weren’t sh*t unless Spinna laced you with a remix. I am lucky enough to either be in a crew with them or friends with them or constantly working on random musical projects. And then – as quickly as it had captivated us, it was over.
It’s sleazin’ season in Sacramento this weekend as we’ve got a greased up rock and roll festival called “Midnight Mass” (sacrilege, you heathens!) and a group of gals that used to be jailbait performing downtown – perhaps as a reminder to us late-twenty and early-thirty somethings that it doesn’t all have to be Saturdays at Home Depot just yet.
Starscape Festival 2008 was definitely a dream realized. Otakon Anime Festival in Baltimore is breakbeat an interesting show and always one of my most memorable. Winning the Fans Pick the DJ’s contest back in 2005 and getting a Main Room slot at CUBIK was definitely another realization of a dream. I could go on and on, but my favorite current venue to play is the Black Hole in Maryland, a little place but I love it there!
Because it is a type of dance music, drum and bass can be best appreciated to the fullest extent in clubs and discotheques. The bass is very pronounced, suggest by its name. After taking a hiatus from hip-hop to explore house music and produce Stevie Wonder tribute shows, DJ Spinna returns with his latest album, Sonic Smash. Do you remember the feeling of the first dew drop of the morning at 5AM- while dancing with the hottest chick you’d never know her name- on a rooftop surrounded by palmtrees, overlooking the skyscape of the whole city that only you knew as it “really ” was- listening to best damn downtempo DJ that you’ve ever seen?
Of course, EOTO’s innovative brand of live electronic music is designed for invention. What they achieve on stage is nothing short of astounding. Performed with all of the bells and whistles of a traditional electronic artist plus the addition of live instruments and vocals, the duo creates every bass ridden blast right before your eyes – without the addition of a single pre-recorded track.
My first name is short for Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, fertility and music. I used to go by DJ Dionysus in the late ’90’s but it would always get misspelled on fliers and mispronounced, so I shortened it around 2002 to DJ Nysus.
Though it is frequently played on the radio in the UK, drum and bass’s real life line is the internet. Its online presence is immense, specifically with internet radio stations dedicated to the genre and its promotion. The latest mixes also come from the internet. Two of the most popular drum and bass website are Drum and Bass Arena and Dogs On Acid.
