Hardstyle Music Festival – Deqon

Starscape Festival 2008 was definitely a dream realized. The Spring Massive at the Paradox is gonna be insane as will Starscape 2009. Still, part of the reason the scene is over is that we have nothing to go back and prove.
Naughty by Nature is a Grammy Award-winning American hip hop trio from East Orange, New Jersey that at the time of its formation in 1989 consisted of Treach, Vin Rock, and the DJ Kay Gee. They are known for being one of the few rap acts who were able to balance success on the pop charts with hardcore rap credibility.

In the midst of it all, it had also become a fashion show. Not so bad, right? We saw it as a good thing. Ravers were making the clothes, so buying them was supporting “us.” The idea that the scene could support itself soon came to the forefront, quickly enticing fashion designers and promoters to invest even more. Was the scene becoming “respectable?” Was it becoming a self-supporting movement- or big business?

And then on top of that, we had shows. There were a lot of shows going on. Radio programming breakbeat supported it as well. Underground hip-hop radio shows. Every night of the week in New York, you could pretty much tune in somewhere and hear underground hip-hop. So the support system was there back then.

Given the nature of EOTO’s live shows, do the masters of musical improvisation feel pressure to top the last show or enjoy the freedom to explore uncharted territory? Without hesitation, Hann stated that they find the inventiveness exhilarating.

The song has become well known in pop culture, being mentioned in TV shows and films such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Malibu’s Most Wanted, Monk, and The Office. “O.P.P.” also gained critical acclaim, being named one of the top 100 rap singles of all time in 1998 by The Source magazine , and being ranked the 20th best single of the ’90s by Spin magazine.

My first name is short for Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, fertility and music. I used to go by DJ Dionysus in the late ’90’s but it would always get misspelled on fliers and mispronounced, so I shortened it around 2002 to DJ Nysus.

EOTO is now a full time gig for the pair with a seemingly endless tour featuring over 700 shows and sold out performances in every market in the country. They fine-tune their approach and skill with each and every show they play, making the next performance more unique than the last.

After the release of Nineteen Naughty Nine: Nature’s Fury, a dispute regarding finances developed between Kay Gee and Treach, with Treach blaming Kay Gee for squandering the group’s finances. Due to these disagreements DJ Kay Gee decided to leave Naughty by Nature in late 2000. He started to develop his own record label Divine Mill. The remainder of the group, Treach and Vin Rock, released an album in 2002 called IIcons, using a variety of different producers including Da Beatminerz; the album, however, received a lukewarm reception from the public. IIcons is their last album to date.
