Everything that we did, we labeled it Domecrackers. Originally from Germany, HMS Foolhardy moved to Austin and just released their EP “Grassrock” a few weeks ago at Mohawk. You weren’t sh*t unless Spinna laced you with a remix.
The Sactown summer concert season is about to hit high gear – and we’re not talking about your Green Days, your Keith Urbans, and your “Bundles of Burnouts” tours with (insert ’80s hair metal band, featuring Bo Bice).
Starscape Festival 2008 was definitely a dream realized. Otakon Anime Festival in Baltimore is an interesting show and always one of my most memorable. Winning the Fans Pick the DJ’s contest back in 2005 and getting a Main Room slot at CUBIK was definitely another realization of a dream. I could go on and on, but my favorite current venue to play is the Black Hole in Maryland, a little place but I love it there!
So let me talk a little bit about the Hardware side. By Hardware I mean physical Drum Machines, Samplers and Keyboards/Workstations that you touch and play with your hands. I first started out with a DR-660 drum machine about 18 years ago. This was my first piece of “real” studio equipment. Before then I was just using breakbeat records on turntables and recording over a home stereo. This drum machine had stocks sounds that could be manipulated with effects like reverb and flange but you could not add sounds. You could however record patterns and then arrange those patterns into songs. I was able to learn a lot by using that drum machine and it was good to be able to play the pads to hear and record the sounds.
Examiner: You just mentioned Rawkus Records. I know some of the artists from that time have since become disillusioned with that era, especially with Rawkus. Did you have any issues with the label yourself?
Impeach The President (The Honey Drippers) – This seemed to be preferred mostly by everyone to sample it rather than remake it. This was not only famously used in hip hop, but also in R&B and other genres. Several hip hop songs have sampled this that include Mr. Loveman by Shaggy, Bitch by Meredith Brooks, and Janet Jackson’s That’s The Way Love Goes.
Live drums, guitars, keys, and vocals are mixed, remixed, and sampled on the fly using cutting-edge programs. Incredibly, it’s all done without a script – and without a net.
There were occasions of “mass hallucinations”- things felt and seen by multitudes of different folks on different drugs- some even sober (granted, not many). The music itself seemed to have a hallucinogenic power- and if you could create a beautiful painting with your music- you would literally become a “God” in the scene.
Whether you want the euphoric moments – or just want to have your face ripped off – you have one more chance to see EOTO in 2010. The band plays their favorite show of the year on New Years – which is set to take place on their home-stomping grounds at City Hall in Denver at 8 pm. The show also features Dieselboy, Liquidstranger, Heyoka, NastyNasty, Nit Grit, Freddy Todd, Rumblejunkie, Jantsen, S.P.E.C.T.R.E., and Ishe to name a few. Tickets are $25 in advance, $40 at the door.
