The show started with Dressed in White, a local Sacramento band made up of members of The Earth Shall Mourn and Illuminate. We could conclude that the lyrics are the most important part of a hit song, then, right?
Texas band The Browning has joined the Midwest Meltdown US Tour. The band is getting ready for their debut album, Burn This World, to be released on Oct. 4 in North America.
Max’s Aunt Debra played by Hope Davis wants custody of Max so he can go and live with her and her rich husband Marvin played by James Rebhorn. Charlie makes a side deal with Marvin that he would release his paternal rights if he paid him and that he would take Max for the summer. Marvin accepts his offer and the adventure begins. Max and Charlie find that they are very much a like with a lot in common. The scene where they visit the steel scrap yard will have you sitting on the edge of your seat because it looks like Max won’t be around for very long, but it also changes their lives.
“Bleeding and Wandering,” the opening track, and “Butcher Shop Tactics” succeed for the same reasons. Unlike much of today’s metalcore, the music between breakdowns isn’t simply filler. Listeners don’t find themselves waiting around for the next breakdown. There is actual songwriting taking place, and the ear remains engages, and maybe even invested fully, in the music taking place.
Technical death metal is a break off of progressive rock and classical music. It has its own song with lots of harmonies and melodies. The different feature you will find is their uncommon time signatures. Bands like Opeth, Edge of Sanity and Cryptosy fit into this category.
Mushroomhead is a great live act but I was a little disappointed this time. Their bass was a little too loud and it overshadowed the vocals and the setlist could have been better. They did do a great job with “Sun Doesn’t Rise” and despite being the opener they drew a decent crowd.
I got back in time to see All That Remains on the Jagermeister stage. As usual, they put on a great show. Their vocalist Phil Labonte has a great voice with a huge range. “Two Weeks” was a standout.
Total harmonic distortion is more noticeable at higher volumes. As you comparing amplifiers you want to get one that has a low THD. You can tell that an amplifier is not very good when music begins to distort as you increase the volume. That’s the real-world measure of THD.
