In my opinion, the biggest advantage to using software is the price. Around 11:30 Amanda took the stage with the power and poise of Aretha reincarnated. However, the MV-8000 which is a sampler/sequencer was able to add sounds and sample.
When hip hop was nearly beginning, it was very much compulsory to keep a compilation of samples and drum breaks. But as time passes by, the use of the same songs repeatedly became less indispensable because of the modern sampling technology and the overture of live instrumentation.
Throbbing bass and thudding beats breakbeat are the signatures of the venture from Travis and Hann born out of their shared love of electronic dance music. The project started out as an avenue for the long time friends to blow off steam and generally just have a good time playing around with technology and music.
The group’s M.O. is to take the free-wheeling party vibe of a DJ and push it to the next level by using organic instruments, innovative performance technology, and uncharted musical exploration.
Looking back, I guess the funniest thing about Ravers creating their own religion-was that even those at the forefront of it, couldn’t explain it. Go figure, half the time we could barely talk (lol). My opinion on the religious aspect?- There definitely was.”something.” Was it the drugs which created this awe-inspiring feeling of “togetherness?” Or again, was it the shear power of the masses coming together? Certainly history shows us that when large crowds come together; there will be some sort of mutual feeling shared. Look at the flock to Mecca, the ability of Hitler to brainwash, Jonestown, or even just local churches. There are hundreds of examples.
And then on top of that, we had shows. There were a lot of shows going on. Radio programming supported it as well. Underground hip-hop radio shows. Every night of the week in New York, you could pretty much tune in somewhere and hear underground hip-hop. So the support system was there back then.
Always check the format of the song you want to sample. The MP3 format is not well-matched with most software and typically just transfer your sample to MP3.
Lastly you will need to have rhythm and some type of music ability. Although I had basic music composition classes while in High School, I am no way a musician or know how to play by reading notes. However, I do have the ability to keep rhythm with a beat metronome and I am able to play melodies along with beats. No matter if you choose Hardware of Software, you will need to be able to keep rhythm and play in key when you make your beats.
