The chill in the air in September can be the perfect way to make your reception a warm cozy affair. The infield’s offensive statistics are staggering when compiled. It really does depend upon your denomination and that of most of your guests.
Shofar is a traditional, Jewish blowing horn. This horn is usually that of a ram. For ages, this blowing horn has been used in various Jewish rituals and religious ceremonies. Rituals like Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah involves blowing of the shofars. Blowing of the shofars is also widely prevalent in many customs held at synagogues.
Not the rest of the year. Attend Shabbat services or any minor holiday free of charge. That’s fine. But on those large important holidays – the two that make up what we know as the High Holy Days or High Holidays – you can only come in the doors of the sanctuary with a ticket.
By Saturday, September 6th, we may be experiencing some frustrations, and our energy could be low. Those of us who over did it this past week may find we hit burnout this weekend. There could be some miscommunications and travel problems on Sunday and Monday. Especially Monday, September 8th, with Pluto and Jupiter at direct station on that day. There could also be money and family problems surfacing on Monday and Tuesday.
And this call goes out to all Christians, not merely priests, bishops and Peter’s successor as pope, “the servant of the servants of God.” Sin, in every expression, is self-centeredness at the expense of others. We must think and speak and act with the same humility, the same emptying of self, that Christ modeled throughout His earthly ministry and all the way to the cross.
So you meet your Jewish friends walking along the street this week. What are acceptable ways for non-Jewish people to respectfully convey warm wishes to them for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (the Jewish New Year and Day of Atonement, reseptively)?
