Sultry Soul Songstress Amanda Davids – Review

The 10 year “scene” from 1990-2000 in Florida certainly went through a decisive change in its course. This has become popular to knock over and was significantly used to build the basis of hip hop. This was my first piece of “real” studio equipment.

Recently, the genre has started becoming more popular with youth around the world thanks to the internet revolution. Drum and bass is synonymous to jungle, a type of electronic dance music which can be identified by its fast tempo and broken beat drums. The bass is also very heavy. Though today it is still underground, it is slowly surfacing and making its way into youth culture, especially in the UK, where it originated.

Their first hit as Naughty by Nature was a track called “O.P.P.,” which sampled the Jackson 5’s hit “ABC” and was released in 1991 on their self-titled album Naughty by Nature. The song peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 , making it one of the most successful rap songs in history to that point in terms of crossover success on the pop charts.

Most of the “clubs” were just one room warehouses with a couple pool tables-but ALWAYS- had the best damn DJ you ever heard, spinning this “new” music. There were always couches available, for when you fell to your “personal journey.” The dancing style we think of today hadn’t evolved yet- you just closed your eyes and did whatever the music made you do. Noone judged you. It was your “journey.” We all had our own to deal with.

My first name is short for Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, fertility and music. I used to go by DJ Dionysus in the late ’90’s but it would always get misspelled on fliers and mispronounced, so I shortened it around 2002 to DJ Nysus.

The beats per minute in drum and bass tracks are usually from 160-180, compared to other forms of breakbeat that have paces of 130-140 BPM. As time has gone by and the genre has evolved, the BPM has raised and as a result, the tracks seem faster now a day.

Looking back, I guess the funniest thing about Ravers creating their own religion-was that even those at the forefront of it, couldn’t explain it. Go figure, half the time we could barely talk (lol). My opinion on the religious aspect?- There definitely was.”something.” Was it the drugs which created this awe-inspiring feeling of “togetherness?” Or again, was it the shear power of the masses coming together? Certainly history shows us that when large crowds come together; there will be some sort of mutual feeling shared. Look at the flock to Mecca, the ability of Hitler to brainwash, Jonestown, or even just local churches. There are hundreds of examples.

EOTO is now a full time gig for the pair with a seemingly endless tour featuring over 700 shows and sold out performances in every market in the country. They fine-tune their approach and skill with each and every show they play, making the next performance more unique than the last.

I was approached by East West [Records]. That [Das EFX “Microphone Master”] was the first official remix and I was in Kansas. I had to get the job done so I brought Joc Max in and did it with him. Everything that we did, we labeled it Domecrackers. We eventually wanted to do a project called the Domecracker Project where me and him produce the whole record. But that still has yet to come to fruition. We talk about it all the time. He’s like a best friend, actually, like a brother. I speak to him all the time even outside of the music thing. So that’s what that Domecracker thing is, me and Joc.
